Holiday Home Luxembourg

Luxembourg is located between Belgium, France and Germany and is one of the smallest countries in Europe, but also one of the richest countries in the world per inhabitant. Luxembourg belongs to the Benelux just like the Netherlands and Belgium.

Many people know this country as a transit route to, for example, France. This is a shame, because Luxembourg is a beautiful country and has a lot to offer.

When you rent a holiday house in Luxembourg, you can enjoy the peace, historic sights and beautiful nature that the country has to offer. With the many walking and cycling routes that can also be found in Luxembourg, you can discover the country in a quiet way.

Echternach

Echternach is a town located near the border of Germany and is the oldest city of Luxembourg. Furthermore, Echternach is especially known for its Jumping Procession. The Jumping procession is part of the immaterial culture world heritage of Unesco and is celebrated every year on the Tuesday after Whitsun.

It is a Catholic parade where thousands of pilgrims and spectators gather for this unique cultural phenomenon. The parade commemorates St. Willibrord who founded the Abbey of Echternach in 698.

So if you rent one of our holiday cottages in Luxembourg, a visit to the town of Echternach is definitely a must!

Active holidays in Luxembourg

Because this country has so much beautiful countryside, there are also hundreds of paths for walking and cycling. There are more than 500 km of cycle paths in the country, so Luxembourg is very suitable for people who love cycling.

The most famous walking route in Luxembourg is the Mullerthal Trail. This trail is 112 km long and is also one of the most beautiful routes in Europe.

Nature

Luxembourg also has many nature reserves. The Ösling in the north of Luxembourg is part of the Ardennes. This area consists of beautiful valleys and wooded mountains. If you want to rent a house, then the Ardennes is the region where Interhome offers the most holiday homes.

Müllerthal is a region where you can walk and cycle through the beautiful landscape of Luxembourg. It lies between Larochette and Echternach and is part of the German-Luxembourg nature park. It is also known as Little Switzerland or Petit Suisse.

A characteristic of this area are the dense forests and the rivers that flow through the gorges and over rocks. One of the most popular attractions of the area is the Schiessentümpel waterfall that can be found near the village Müllerthal.

The reservoir at Esch-sur-Sûre and the Upper Sûre nature reserve are also highly recommended for water lovers. Besides the beautiful nature in this nature reserve, there are also nice villages with interesting markets to be found.

Another nature reserve in Luxembourg is called Haff-Reimich and is located in the Moselle area, near the village of Remich. In this region you can enjoy the delicious wines that Luxembourg has to offer and also you can make the most beautiful walks on the hiking trails in nature.

The village of Schengen can also be found in this region. Schengen is a village close to the border triangle with Germany and France. It is also known for the Schengen Treaties, which regulate the free movement of people and goods between European countries.

Sights

Luxembourg may be a small country, but it has many tourist attractions. One of these special attractions is the Castle Vianden. This castle is known as the most beautiful castle in the country.

In the period between 1530 and 1820 this castle was still owned by the Oranjes. Every year at the end of July and at the beginning of August, a medieval castle festival takes place here, including plays, games, and markets.

Besides this beautiful castle you can find seven more castles in the valley of the Eisch. You can do this in several ways; by travelling from castle to castle by car, by bicycle or by foot on a 41 km long footpath.

This path is called the Sentier de Sept Châteaux and runs from Gaichel to Mersch). There is also a beautiful route to find. This Route du Vin that runs from Schengen to Wasserbillig is 42 km long and runs along Idyllic wine villages, vineyards and wine museums.

Many winegrowers are often open for a visit. At the Cave du Sud and Cep d'Or wineries you can taste wine, among other things.
