Hohensalzburg Fortress

Salzburg

Salzburg is full of attractions. High above the splendid old town, the medieval fortress Hohensalzburg, the landmark of the Austrian cultural metropolis, sits on the Mönchsberg. The museums of the DomQuartier and Mirabell Palace, whose pleasure garden was once the filming location of the Hollywood classic "The Sound of Music" and today invites you to stroll, are also a must-see. Salzburg is a festival city and at the same time the birthplace of the world-famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In Getreidegasse, you can visit the house where the musical genius was born in 1756 and then treat yourself to an original Salzburg Mozartkugel at the legendary Fürst confectionery. You can experience the enjoyment of nature on a city hike on the Kapuzinerberg.

Salzburg - Climate

Salzburg is located on the northern edge of the Alps, which provides a warm-temperate climate. Due to its special location in the rain shadow, there is increased rainfall throughout the year. The "Salzburger Schnürlregen" is well-known. March and October are particularly rainy. The best time to travel is during the summer months when the thermometer averages 23°C. However, a visit to the city of Mozart is worthwhile all year round. In April and May, temperatures often reach 20°C. From November to March, it is also ski season with comparably mild temperatures between 4°C and 9°C. The world-famous Christkindlmarkt already begins at the end of November.

The following graph shows the average weather conditions for the country. Historical weather conditions may vary by region.
