Hossegor South Beach

The Plage Sud beach in the popular French seaside resort of Hossegor on the Atlantic in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is the southern extension of the main beach. Unlike the wild North Beach, the waves of the Atlantic Ocean here are pleasantly calm. The South Beach is 1.1 km long, very wide, and gently sloping, making it particularly suitable for swimming. In addition to excellent infrastructure, there are numerous lifeguards here who ensure safe splashing.

The golf course of Hossegor was built in 1927 by Arnaud Massy and John Morrison. The Mediterranean location amidst a pine and cork oak forest and the wind-protected sandy soil make teeing off here a pleasure. After the game, the club restaurant beckons. The golf course, with its British-style layout, regularly hosts national and international events. The local golf academy has already produced greats like professional golfer Jean Van de Velde. In the on-site shop, visitors can find suitable clothing and equipment.

Marais d'Orx

The nearly 800-hectare nature reserve was drained during Napoleon's time and is a popular resting place for migratory birds that feel comfortable on the water surfaces, in the willow bushes, and in the reed or rush belt. From an observatory, visitors can watch the animals. Hikers and walkers first notice the heavenly tranquility that prevails here at all times of the day. On tours with an experienced nature guide, interested parties can encounter the animal inhabitants of the swamp area. In addition to birds, amphibians, reptiles, and insects can also be discovered.

For the communities along the Atlantic coastal route, proximity to the sea and quaint buildings are typical. The long-distance cycling route tries to highlight these features. In less than two and a half hours, the route from Léon to Capbreton is already completed. The route is also perfectly suitable for families with children. They start in the tranquil community of Léon. The final destination, Capbreton, is considerably larger and has a harbor as well as a pier. A highlight is the Maison du Rey.

The brackish water system of Lake Hossegor consists of several areas and bays where you can swim. Popular are the beaches Plage Blanche, Plage du Rey, and Plage du Parc. These are framed by shade-giving pines. Those who feel like it can use their stay at Lake Hossegor for hikes and bike tours around the water. In doing so, rare water birds can be discovered, which call the region their home. Additionally, it is not far to the recreational beaches on the Atlantic.

Sporting Casino

The Sporting Casino of Hossegor blends harmoniously into the Mediterranean landscape. It was built between 1927-1931 by Henri Godbarge in the Basque style and is located in the middle of a tree-lined park. The facade is adorned with two reliefs by the 1930s artist Lucien Danglade. Casino visitors can enjoy themselves in the gaming room at slot machines or play Black Jack. A restaurant and a bar provide guests with food and drinks. The outdoor swimming pool, open seasonally, invites guests to swim laps.

Along the Atlantic coast, there is an oceanic temperate climate with cool and humid winters and warm summers. For a beach holiday, it is recommended to book a holiday home during the summer months. The highest average temperature is in July at 24 degrees with water temperatures of 22 degrees. Surf enthusiasts should rent an apartment in October. Then, the stage of the Surf World Cup takes place in Hossegor. With temperatures up to 20 degrees, there is a mild climate in which the spectacle on the water can be observed. During the winter months, fewer holiday homes are available. Therefore, it is worth reserving early.
