About one kilometer off the coast of Cap d'Agde lies the Fort de Brescou on the island of the same name. Plage de la Conque is located between Montpellier and Narbonne and is considered an insider tip among vacationers. Here you will find a natural coastline characterized by rocks, fine pebbles, and year-round green vegetation. The beach promises a relaxed atmosphere, and the bay is suitable for children to swim in many places due to the shallow water. Around 250 bird species live here. They find ideal living conditions in the large open lagoon Entang du Bagnas, in the salt marshes, in the reed beds and reeds, as well as in the swamps and small forests. Here you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the ancient Roman city of Agde and its excavations, which are now overbuilt by the modern city. Changing special exhibitions with maritime focuses complement the permanent exhibition.
Massive volcanic eruptions have shaped the rugged coastline of La Grande Conque in Cap d'Agde. Over millions of years, erosion has created small bays whose sand, like that of Plage de La Grande Conque, is black in color. During a hike, you have a magnificent view of the Cap and the breathtaking cliffs.
From Cap d’Agde, a trip to the town of Agde is worthwhile to visit the remarkable historical round lock. It compensates for the level difference between the Canal du Midi and the Hérault River. The structure, completed in 1676, is one of the round locks and even offers a third access to a branch canal.
The award-winning landscape garden Le Jardin de Saint Adrien is located in the southern French department of Aude and is the green legacy of an old basalt quarry from the Mediterranean. On the third day, you visit Sète. The port city can be reached by car in half an hour and by bike in one and a half hours. The route runs along the coast, offering beautiful panoramas. Make a stop in Marseillan. The seaside resort is located on a long, narrow strip of land that separates the Étang de Thau lagoon from the Mediterranean Sea. Stroll along the Avenue de la Méditerranée and admire the yachts in the marina. Sète is also located on the lagoon and is surrounded by water on all sides, earning it the nickname Venice of Languedoc. Are you enthusiastic about culture? Then visit the Musée Paul Valéry, dedicated to the famous poet. Also interesting is the museum commemorating the singer Georges Brassens. From the 175-meter-high Mont Saint-Clair, you have a beautiful view over the city.
