Mayrhofen

At your own pace, discover the holiday region with a 1,400 km network of hiking trails. Cable cars provide easy access to the majestic peaks of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. Families will find a paradise at AhornSee & AhornBachl: perfect for splashing around in summer. As the year comes to an end, the winter season starts in Mayrhofen. The brave tackle Austria's steepest slope, the Harakiri with a 78 percent gradient. The PenkenPark attracts snowboarders. It's more relaxed on the Ahorn, where sunny and wide slopes await. Ried im Zillertal

The scenic Zillertal High Road leads from Ried im Zillertal through the region at an altitude between 1,700 and 2,100 meters. Numerous mountain inns along the route invite you to recharge with Tyrolean Gröstl, cheese dumplings, and other regional delicacies. The nostalgic Zillertal Railway also stops in Ried im Zillertal. From Ried im Zillertal, winter sports enthusiasts can easily reach the ski areas Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and Spieljoch with the breathtaking fun park. A free ski bus ensures climate-friendly travel to the cable cars. Winter hikes are leisurely: 50 kilometers of trails are well-prepared in the holiday region of Fügen-Kaltbach.

Rohrberg

With the Zillertal Arena, the largest ski area in the Zillertal extends along your holiday resort. Here, around 150 kilometers of slopes with predominantly easy and intermediate runs are available for thrilling descents. For children, the Zillertal Arena offers a natural toboggan run and an ice skating rink. On foot or with the best panoramic view via cable car, you can climb the peaks around Rohrberg during your hiking vacation. From the neighboring Zell am Ziller, for example, you can take a cable car directly into the hiking area around the approximately 2,500-meter-high Kreuzjoch. Tux

Breathe in the spicy mountain air emanating from the Tux and Zillertal Alps as you use the 350 km long network of hiking trails around Tux in the Zillertal. The trip to the Hintertux Glacier is guaranteed to be a highlight. Upon reaching the top, the panoramic view from the Großglockner to the Dolomites is unique. Attention winter sports enthusiasts, the holiday region around Tux offers 203 perfectly groomed kilometers of slopes. On the Hintertux Glacier, you have the opportunity to pursue your favorite hobby all year round. Families gather in the Eggalm Children's Park, where a ski carousel and a magic carpet make it easier to get started in skiing.

Finkenberg

In summer, Finkenberg at the entrance of the Tux Valley presents itself as an Eldorado for hikers: You can comfortably reach the Penken with the Finkenberg Almbahn. If you want to learn about the fascinating nature, the moor educational trail at the middle station is a hidden gem. The landmark of the place is the Devil's Bridge Tuxerklamm. During the cold season, the Finkenberg Almbahn takes you to the extensive ski area Zillertal 3000, which offers slopes for all skill levels. Off the slopes, the ice rink Tux-Finkenberg provides variety. In the holiday region, 68 kilometers of winter hiking trails invite you to actively discover the snow-covered landscape.

Gerlos

Or how about a mountain bike tour on the Isskogel, where four trails are available? Families love the adventure land with Flying Fox and high ropes course. Snow-sure Gerlos is perfect for a winter vacation: The Zillertal Arena with 150 kilometers of slopes stretches from Zell in the Zillertal to beyond Gerlos to Krimml-Hochkrimml. 31 hospitable huts invite you to recharge with hearty Tyrolean cuisine. If you prefer cross-country skiing, the wild and romantic Schönachtal is a hidden gem.

Kaltenbach

The well-developed infrastructure of Kaltenbach is attractively situated by the small river Ziller. It is a practical starting point for hiking tours in the Zillertal Alps. The almost 2,000-meter Spieljoch is just one of the worthwhile summit destinations and is particularly popular with families. As an adventure mountain, it offers a rope garden and a barefoot hiking trail for both young and old. In winter vacations in Kaltenbach, it's time to hit the slopes. The Hochzillertal - Zillertal ski area measures around 90 kilometers of slopes. It offers a mix of easy to challenging runs. Long snowshoe hikes or sledding with the family also provide winter fun. A special feature is a winter via ferrata for adults and children.

Ramsau im Zillertal

Ramsau im Zillertal is perfect for extended hikes: Comfortably take the Ramsberglift to the Sonnalm, where numerous tours start. The landmarks of the small village are the Ramsauer Church and the Old Mill, where more than 2,000 gemstones, minerals, and mountain crystals can be seen. The Ramsberg is a popular destination for hikes. You can, for example, ascend to the Karlalm, which is located at 1,759 meters. In summer, you can taste delicious Tilsiter and mountain cheese, which is produced directly on the Alm. For cyclists, the Zillertal Cycle Path leads through the magnificent nature.

Hintertux Glacier

At the Hintertux Glacier, you can enjoy snow fun all year round. Modern cable cars and perfectly groomed slopes, together with the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000, offer a skiing area of superlatives. From the panoramic terrace at 3,250 m, you have a fascinating view of the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks. Instead of skiing, you can also enjoy the magnificent view on varied hiking routes. Worth seeing is the natural monument Spannagel Cave, which, at over 10 km in length, is one of the largest cave systems in the Central Alps. The glacier crevasse "Nature Ice Palace" is located 25 meters deep in the ice and can be visited via stairs and ladders.

Krimml Waterfalls

At the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the Krimml Waterfalls plunge 385 meters down the rock. This makes the waterfalls the highest in Europe and the fifth highest worldwide. In the summer months of July and August, the natural spectacle is at its best when the waterfalls have the most water. The toll waterfall trail leads visitors directly along the Krimml Waterfalls in a magnificent mountain setting. Feel the spray of the masses of water on your skin and take a deep breath. The mist of the Krimml Waterfalls is especially beneficial for asthmatics and allergy sufferers and alleviates symptoms as a recognized natural remedy.

Olpererhütte and Olperer

The Olperer is a popular travel destination at any time of the year. In summer, ambitious mountaineers follow in the footsteps of Gainer Jackl and Georg Samer, who were the first to climb it in 1867. One of the most beautiful routes starts at the Schlegeis reservoir. The high-altitude tour follows a challenging ridge walk towards the summit. The Olpererhütte welcomes you at 2,389 m amidst the magnificent mountain panorama. You can reach the hut from the Schlegeis reservoir via hiking trail 502 in about 1.5 hours. On the tour, you will overcome about 600 meters in altitude. About half an hour from the hut, a climbing garden awaits you.

Schlegeis Reservoir

The Schlegeis reservoir, 59 m deep with a volume of 126.5 million m³, is one of the largest storage lakes in Austria. The 131 m high dam wall is impressive. From the lake, the view of the Schlegeiskees glacier is unique. In summer, there are regular tours of the dam. If you want to see the Schlegeis reservoir in its full dimension, walk from the Olpererhütte over the suspension bridge. In the background, you can see the numerous three-thousanders of the Zillertal Alps. On the way back, it is worth stopping at the hut to recharge with Tyrolean delicacies.

High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps

If you want to learn more about the unique flora and fauna of the High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps, pay a visit to the Nature Park House in Ginzling. The exhibitions "Ibex.Worlds" in Zillergrund and "Cultural Landscape.Worlds" in Mitterstall also explore the unique habitat for animals and plants. Numerous hiking trails lead through the High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps with dense forests and extensive alpine pastures. It is particularly quiet in the five wild and romantic side valleys, which are referred to as "Gründe" in the Zillertal. In summer, you can hike with experienced nature park rangers and learn interesting facts about the region.

Zillertal - Climate

Depending on the altitude, the climate in your holiday resort in the Zillertal varies slightly. On hot days, temperatures in the valley reach 30 degrees and more. The warmest month is July with an average temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. July is also the wettest month with 15.4 days of precipitation. From May to August, the sun shines from the sky for more than 5 hours per day. In January and February, the average temperature is between 1.8 and 2 degrees Celsius. From November, precipitation often falls in the form of snow, in January even on an average of 9 days.
