Austria Landeck Castle

Landeck Castle

The castle was built in 1290 as an administrative seat and was located directly on the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta in a strategically favorable position. Count Meinhard II had the building expanded. The castle had its heyday under the rule of the Knights of Schrofenstein. The castle houses a local history museum where you can learn more about its eventful history. Children can go on a treasure hunt in the castle and discover mysterious treasure stones and old knights. Landeck Castle is now a cultural venue with numerous changing events.

Austria Schrofenstein Castle

Schrofenstein Castle

The castle Schrofenstein, presumably built in the 12th century for defensive purposes, allowed for the monitoring of the entire Vinschgau's traffic routes due to its exposed location. From the 13th century, the castle was owned by the Schrofenstein family and increasingly fell into disrepair in the 19th century. Today, only the 12-meter-high keep remains of the fortress. From the ruins, visitors have a magnificent view of the Vinschgau and the surrounding forests. The castle cannot be visited as it is privately owned.

At the entrance to the Zammer Lochputz, there is a Kneipp facility. Impressive is the 30-meter-high waterfall of the Lötzbach. Where the rock wall is narrowest and steepest, there are stone images of a bull and a nymph. They are said to be two lovers united in death.
