23 km from the Spanish border (Vila Real de San Antonio) and 32 km from Faro airport. The town was founded in 380 BC. Tavira is known for it fishing harbour which specialises in tuna and sardine fishing and is separated from the sea by a long sand spit. Morisco castle is of particular interest (it was rebuilt in the XIII C.), the Roman bridge and the island of Tavira (transport by boat).
