Climate
Famous holiday resort directly by the sea, 67 km north-east from York. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. Access: motorway A64 York. Railway station in the resort. For arrivals by plane: airport Leeds/Bradford (LBA) 94 km. Located on the southern end of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, the resort is divided into two bays, North Bay and South Bay, by a promontory supporting the 11th century ruins of Scarborough Castle. The South Bay was the site of the original early medieval settlement and offers a sandy beach, cafes, arcades, theatres and entertainment facilities. Popular attractions are the award winning Sea Life Marine Sanctuary, Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum, along with many festivals, including Seafest, Jazz (every September), Bike week, Scarborough Fayre and the Scarborough Cricket Festival. Scarborough also boasts superb parks and gardens, walking trails along cliff tops and boating on local lakes or the sea.
