Daytona Beach has been famous for car racing since 1902 when the first automobile competition was held on the wide flat beach. Today cars are still allowed to drive there. The area's 23 miles of beaches from North to South are: Palm Coast, Ormond-by-the-Sea, Ormond Beach, the busy commercial center of Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, Wilbur-by-the-Sea, ending in the quieter section of Ponce Inlet where there is a lighthouse. Daytona International Speedway (Daytona 500/February, Motorcycle Classic/March, Speed Weeks/July), Jai-Alai, dog racing, regional airport. Sailing, deep-sea fishing, tennis, golf, discos, many shops and restaurants. Approx 1 hour to Orlando/Walt Disney World, 1 hour south to Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center.
