Travel Guide Punta Gorda

Further information on the country USA

Climate
About halfway between Sarasota and Fort Myers, where the scenic Peace and Myakka Rivers meet the sea, the Western coastline is interrupted by the natural Charlotte Harbor. Along Highway 75 on the northern side lies Port Charlotte, while Punta Gorda sits on the south shore of the bay. In 1997, this area was voted the 4th best place to live in the US and "Number One Place in the South". The city of Punta Gorda is over a century old and gained importance in the late 1800's as the end of the railroad line. Today, more modern "Florida Homes" blend nicely with the historic "Key West" style buildings and create a unique "small town" atmosphere. There are nearly 130 square miles of pristine waterways offering plenty for watersports enthusiasts. Many other leisure activities and attractions are available throughout the entire region.
