On the western side of Tampa Bay and north of St Petersburg lies the city of Clearwater, connected across the water by the Campbell Causeway and the Frankland Bridge. Since 1885 popular as a healthy retirement place, it is today a busy commercial and residential center offering a wide variety of leisure activities. Along the western shores on the Gulf of Mexico, vacationers find miles of sandy beaches and all types of water sports, starting in the North with Crystal Beach, to Bel Air Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores and Redington Beach in the South.
