Climate
As the name suggests, this region forms the Southern area, which is located on the Mediterranean coast. The climate here is, of course, Mediterranean, very warm and dry in summer and mild and rainy in winter. The provincial towns are Antalya, Adana, Hatay, Icel, Isparta, Burdur, and Kahramanmaras. Antalya is the tourist centre of Turkey with 750 000 inhabitants which increases threefold in the high season. Adana, on the other hand, has around 1.5 million inhabitants and is an important industrial and agricultural town. Cotton, cereal, citrus fruits and bananas (only in this region) are cultivated, but also tobacco. The climate provides good conditions for greenhouses roses are popular. In the interior of the region and particularly in Isparta. There are numerous factories in and around Adana, especially textile factories. In Antalya, almost everything is directed at tourism. There are numerous ancient towns to visit in this region eg. Aspendos, Perge, Olympus, Patara. This area is also well-known for its waterfalls, long beaches, beautiful bays and nature reserves eg. Duden Manavgat and Kursunlu; Lara and Konyaalti beaches in the middle of Antalya as well as Phaselis, Kekova, Petara and Kaputas beaches near Kas and Kalkan.
