This region of Higher Tatras offers very good infrastructure and facilities for winter sports, where the summit of Gerlachovsky reaches 2655 m in altitude. The national park of Pieniny and the Dunajec river, (where you can descend the gorges by rubber dinghy), are open to the holidaymaker to explore. Other holiday centres include the Tschirmer lake (Strbske Pleso) nestled at 1350 m, as well as the summer and winter resorts of Stary Smokovec, Tatranska Strba and -Tatranska Lomnica.
