Situated on the west coast called Costa Vicentina, Aljezur is probably of Arab origin whose castle, situated in an elevated position, is the most obvious Musulmane feature in the region. Situated 30 km north of Lagos, this town has 5000 residents and is a major farming area, rural and ecological tourism. Natural park "Area de Paisagem Protegida do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina". Important local craftwork with drawings on wood. A trip into the Monchique mountains is recommended. Beautiful beaches at Odeceixe or Arrifana are also windsurfing areas with impressive cliffs.
