Climate
Achill is Ireland's largest island, situated off the west coast of Co. Mayo. It is separated from the mainland by a narrow strip of sea, which is now bridged and open to traffic. Quiet resort, in the northern part of the island directly by the sea, 47 km from Castlebar, 119 km from Galway, 365 km from Rosslare. For arrivals by plane: airport Galway (119) 1 km. Varied and wild scenery, with mountains, open moorland and dramatic cliffs. Keem Bay is regarded as one of Europe's best beaches. Lots of archaeological remains on the island, one of which is the Deserted Village. Activities include: swimming, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing, golf, diving, hillwalking and cycling.
