Travel Guide Hungary

Lake Balaton, also known as the ”Hungarian Sea” is the largest lake in central Europe. The region surrounding this lake is a paradise for families wishing to spend their holiday on the beach and also for sailing enthusiasts. Because the lake is not very deep (12 m deepest), the lake waters rapidly reach a pleasant temperature and on the south bank, it is not unusual to have warm temperatures reaching 27 degrees Celcius in the summertime. Budapest, the capital and traditional holiday town is only an hour away by car from the Balaton region by motorway. The capital offers numerous interesting tourist sights, including the Roman amphitheatre, the Turkish baths as well as many other historical sights and monuments.

Eating and Drinking

Hungarian cuisine is simple and tasty. The most popular dish is without doubt, the famous goulash. Various soups, paprika chicken served with noodles and stuffed cabbage are just as good, as are freshwater fish, which are often on the menu. International cuisine is also served in the holiday -centres. Menus are often in German or English. To accompany your meal, you can choose either beer or a local wine, for example, a ”Tokajer”, which is also known and appreciated in other countries.
