Franconia: a holiday region situated in northern Bavaria, comprising of approx. 15 tourist resorts dotted around 30.000 km2. More than half of this area is linked to 9 natural parks. However, Franconia is not only noted for its natural scenery but also for its towns and their history, for example Nuremberg, Bayreuth, Coburg or Eichstatt, without forgetting Dinkelsbuhl and Rothenburg/Tauber which are on the romantic route and are the viewpoints over Franconia. Castles, fortresses, attractions, internationally renowned museums, and lively culture are all elements, which make a trip to Franconia attractive.
Fichtelgebirge is a small granite mountain range situated above Bavaria, in the northeast where the 3 regions of Bavaria, Saxony and Bohemia meet. Also, Tillenberg, considered the centre of Europe after 1844, is not very far away: 35 km as the crow flies. This region therefore represents the heart of Europe as well as the heart of Germany. After the opening of the border and the joining of Germany this region acts as a bridge between east and west.
