Climate
The town of Wervik is crossed by a border: one are is in Belgium, the other in France. Excavations have revealed that at the beginning of our era, Wervik was a Roman adminstrative centre and a market. To visit: the St Medard church of which the crypt dates from the 13th century, the principal choir from 14th and the tower from the 15th century, together they form a beautiful building of Gothic style. In the square, stands a pillory from the 18th century. Wervik is the tabacco cultural centre of Belgium: approx. 96 % of belgium tabacco is cultivated in this area. Points of interest at Geluwe (approx. 5 km): St Denis church completely renovated after the First World War and near the parking to the north of the church is the "Gaspermonument", built after an old gargoyle from the church tower. Tabacco harvest festival: the 2nd Sunday in September. The tabacco fair: the 3rd Saturday in October. Small village, 20 km south-west from Kortrijk, 25 km north from Lille. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. Access: motorway E17 Kortrijk-Lille. For arrivals by plane: airport Lille (LIL) 30 km.
