Further information on the country Belgium

Climate
Brugge, the old capital of Flanders, is a diocesan town since 1559. It lies on the River Rei 12 km south of Zeebrugge, connected to Brugge by the Boudewijn-canal. Other canals link the city (which has 120'000 inhabitants) with Oostende, Nieuwpoort and Veurne as well as Gent and Sluis. Despite the new buildings and the demolition of the old city wall, Brugge, with its completely preserved medieval city centre, is a tourist magnet which attracts 2 million visitors every year. Worth seeing: the market with the "Belfried", the castle place with the town hall, the Onze-Liewe-Vrouwkerk, the Memling museum, the Basilic of St. Sang etc. A romantic trip on the canal is part of an unforgettable holiday memory. Excursions can be made to the various seaside resorts, such as Oostende and to Knokke, De Haan and to Jabbeke (11 km west of Brugge), Assebroek (farm, interesting for children) and Tillegembos with its water castle.
