Climate
Tourism is in full swing here in this rural and mining region where one can enjoy driving through country scenery. Some points of interest: Mons, the county town of the province with ancient buildings, the Mariemont park, Binche, the famous carnival (Mardi-Gras) and the carnival museum. Also, Ronquieres, and the -Strepy-Thieu lift, and two structures facilitating the transfer of barges between the many canals. At Beloeil, near the town of Ath, is a chateau named ”Petit -Versailles”. Tournai, which was the homeland of Merovingiens, is equally important for its art, and is home to one of the most beautiful churches in the country: the Notre-Dame cathedral.
