Florida, also known as the ”Sunshine State”, welcomes you to its dream beaches. Florida is the perfect holiday experience, pure and simple. It’s im-possible to tire of Florida, as there are so many things to discover: beautiful beaches, fun parks, national parks, numerous top quality golf courses and cruises sailing from different ports (some cruises with casinos). Florida is a popular destination for Americans between Christmas and Easter when it is very sunny with pleasant temperatures, whereas in the summer months, it tends to _be hotter and humid.

Visitors have a huge choice of all types of restaurants, especially in the main resorts, including Greek, Italian, Spanish, local and traditional specialities, from fast food to gourmet standard. Of course, there are also the wellknown chains like ”Denny’s” and ”McDonald’s”. The speciality of Florida is ”Key Lime Pie”, which you must try. As restaurant staff wages are not very high, it is customary to leave a tip of 15–20% of the bill. Beer or wine (Californian wines are lovely and Florida wines are also very good) is drunk with most meals. Good beers are available from both large well-known breweries and smaller lesser known ones. No alcohol is allowed to be served to those under 21 years of age.

Distance and speed are measured in miles (1 mile = 1.61 km). Driving is on the right like in continental Europe. Hired cars are usually automatic. The driving style here is much more relaxed than in Europe. The speed limit is accordingly low: between 15–35 miles/h (24 – 56 km/h) in town and built up areas, up to 42 miles/h (72 km/h) outside of these areas, and 55–65 miles/h (88–104 km/h) on multi-lane roads and highways. You need a car in most areas and an international driving licence is recommended to hire one. The minimum driving age for visitors is 21 years and drivers under 25 must leave a security deposit. The alcohol limit is 0.0 pro mille!
