Climate

This region forms a triangle containing the country’s three most famous hot spring resorts: Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary), Franzenbad (Frantiskovy Lazne) and Marienbad (Marianske Lazne). Karlsbad is also known worldwide for its porcelain production, its glassworks as well as its 12 sources of mineral water and its so-called “13th source” the Becherovka, a herbal liqueur made since the 19th century. An important annual event is the international film festival organised in July, attended by many film stars. The main ski area is in the Metalliferes mountains, of which the highest peak is the Klinovec. This mountain range also forms a natural border with Germany.
