Region information Kvarner

The region Kvarner

Kvarner bay mainly includes the Opatija Riviera and the Crikvenica Riviera plus the islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, Losinj and a few more islands. The Opatija Riviera boasts attractive countryside. The town of the same name is considered the “grande dame” of the Croatian seaside resorts with a tourist tradition dating back to the days of the Danube monarchy. There are imposing hotels, villas, promenades and parks dating from this period. Crikvenica is another seaside resort with a long tourist tradition. It is well known for its large gently shelving sandy and shingle beach. Krk, the largest island in the Adriatic, besides its good tourist facilities has the natural feel of a small, pretty city. The island of Rab is a favourite destination. The town of the same name and its old town are in an superb position. Rab is considered one of the most beautiful small towns along the Adriatic coast. The island of Cres has untouched countryside, with its charming small towns and numerous creeks. It is linked to the island of Losinj by a small bridge. Losinj, the most visited island in the bay of Kvarner, is also the greenest, a unique oasis benefiting from a subtropical climate. From an administration point of view, the island of Pag is both part of Kvarner bay and Dalmatia. The arid, bare countryside seen from the mainland is not very attractive but the south west of the island offers beautiful olive groves and pretty shingle beaches.
